The Brendan Martin Cup visits our school.

.We were very proud to welcome the Brendan Martin Cup to Bayside. Two of the Dublin Ladies Team, Laura McGinley and Emer Ni Eafa  visited the classes and the children were delighted to see them as many of them had watched the final. I am sure many of our pupils have been inspired and will be lining out for Dublin in the years to come!

Spring has arrived and the Junior Infants have been busy using their green fingers.

Reading in Junior Infants

Junior Infants are well on their way to becoming fantastic readers. They have been working really hard at blending sounds to make words. They are now so good at reading that they beat their teacher in the decoding competition every single day.

Sam’s Visit

The Sam Maguire Cup came to visit the boys and girls in Bayside recently.James McCarthy brought the cup and the children had the opportunity to ask him lots of questions about what it takes to become a Dublin footballer. A lot of boys and girls went home inspired that afternoon.

It was a really exciting day and we all dressed in blue for the occasion.

Junior Infants go on a nature walk.

DSCF0411 DSCF0413

On Tuesday the 20th of October all of the pupils in our school went on a nature walk. The Junior Infants had a fantastic time. Ms. Burke from the Green School Commitee gave  us all Hi Vis vests so that cars could see us. We wear them when we walk to and from school now.

On our walk we spotted lots of signs of Autumn. We collected leaves, helicopters and conkers. We also saw lots of animals. We even found a fairy door.

We all want to thank our parents and relatives for their sponsorship money.

Fun Days in Junior Infants

Junior Infants have been very busy since their arrival in September. Have a look at just some of the hard work that they have been doing.

A visit from an Author

Abby’s Grandad, Michael Casey, is an author and he sent us in a draft of his new book that is in the process of being published. We were very lucky to have a visit from him today. He came in to tell us about his book and to tell us about life as an author. We picked up lots of storytelling tips from him. We all want to be authors when we grow up… Here are some photos from the visit…

PABS Coffee Hour

PABS (Parents Association Bayside School) are holding a coffee hour for the parents and guardians of Junior Infants on Thursday 11th September, 11am – 12 noon, in the school hall. We hope many of you will be able to attend as it is a nice opportunity to meet other parents/guardians.

The Joys of June!

lapping up the glorious summer sunshine,

playing old school playground games on the grass,

running for our lives and racing in relays for sports day,

predicting the outcome of the World Cup,

and flying our hopes and dreams for second class on paper planes,

Make Hay While the Sun Shines!

Room 11 and Room 12 made the most of the beautiful sunny day today!  Hopefully we will get lots more opportunities to dine al fresco!

Our Trip to the Courtyard!

We made our first summer trip to the courtyard today! We had a lovely time smelling the flowers and looking at all of the growth.  Ms. Clohosey brought the camera to take some class photos.  We got some hilarious action shots of our class after she almost fell into the pond!!

Green Schools Update

Hi Guys,

We have started work on our next Green Flag. This year we will be trying to win a flag for Travel and Transport.

We have set up a new Green Team and we went out together on a walkability audit with Sandra Pokrant from An Táisce.

We are trying to establish a safe walking route to school where people might carpool and then Park n’ Stride from Bayside Shopping Centre. As the name suggest this would mean parking your car at the shopping centre and then walking to school from there. This would hopefully mean less traffic around the school in the mornings and afternoons.

On our walk we discovered lots of interesting things

Here we are outside the school looking at the road markings that make it safe for us to cross the road.

Outside our school we have yellow markings on the road and railings. The yellow markings help to remind traffic that they must slow down and they cannot park outside our school. The railings are there to stop any cars from parking on or mounting the path. They also stop children from running out of the school gates and straight onto the road.

This is Sandra, she told us lots about raod safety

We are very lucky to have a safe pathway from the shops to the school. There is plenty of room for people and buggys to walk along. On our walk we heard the birds singing and saw some lovely trees and plants.

Nice wide path

Speed bumps on the road help the cars to drive at a safe pace

Concrete pillars in the middle of the path ensure that no cars can access it. This keeps it safe for walkers

When we got to the carpark there was plenty of parking spaces and space.

We think that it would be really super if some families that travel to school by car might consider having a go at “Park n’ Stride” from Bayside shopping centre, especially coming into the lovely summer weather

Christmas in Junior Infants

The Junior Infants have been very busy in December. They prepared for the Nativity play, they learned many carols and they produced some lovely artwork.

Science week

We had a great time during science week. We did loads of experiments. Here are a few pictures.

We did lots of Halloween Art. Cats, ghosts, and scary castles were to be seen in all the Junior Infant rooms. Here are some of the pumpkins we found.!!

Nature Walk

We went on a nature walk today. We saw beautiful trees with Autumn colours of golden brown, green, yellow ,red and orange.

Bird Watch!

There was great excitement in Room 12 today! We were quietly doing our work when we heard beautiful singing from outside our window!  There was a big flock of birds eating our bird cakes!  We spied on the starlings so that we wouldn’t frighten them away.  They had colourful designs on their feathers.  They had beautiful, sweet singing voices.  By lunchtime, there was only half a bird cake left!  We are glad that the birds liked our bird cakes.

Watch out for some fine fat starlings flying around Bayside!

Perfect Pancakes!

Mix a pancake,
Stir a pancake,
Pop it in the pan;
Fry the pancake,
Toss the pancake,
Catch it if you can!

We had great fun making pancakes yesterday.  We mixed the batter then we cooked our pancakes.  They were yummy!  At the end of the day we had a pancake flipping competition!
